This initiative has brought together afterschool programs and nutrition, physical activity and food security resources, creating opportunities for new partnerships among leaders and organizations with common goals. CCS, its Learning Community afterschool programs and the Network for a Healthy California have begun to positively impact the health of children, families and communities through implementing exemplary nutrition, physical activity and food security practices in California’s afterschool programs. Through the establishment of afterschool Healthy Behaviors Learning Centers throughout the state, and by increasing the number of Healthy Behaviors Learning Centers in the future, we hope to continue and expand the impact of this initiative. CCS has already begun developing additional tools to help the field, including a How to Guide to assist programs in implementing the Exemplary Practices.
